Man,
Has it been that long. I have been tied up with buying a house and doing a lot of stuff at work.
But now we have high-speed interwebs, teh internetz baby!
No more dial-up or "borrowing" neighbor's signals!
That's all for now.
Even though nobody reads this, I still have been very lax in posting.
Couple thoughts:
TIVO---our Tivo is getting a workout and building up a serious backlog. The worst offender is Medium, which we used to watch very quickly, but is battling a few issues: 1) It is on at 10:00, very late for us 2) It is on on a Wednesday night, so when we don't watch it live, there ain't no chance it is gonna get watched on Thursday (the Perfect Storm of TV nights) 3) The episodes have been lacking lately, can't put my finger on what is lacking. My wife and I have noticed that the whole crime part of the show is dealt with in the last 2 minutes, many times without the payoff of seeing the arrest or capture!
American Idol--this season is weird for me. I like a few of the singers, but the rest are bad in a way that isn't even fun. There is no Pickler, Bucky, or others that while bad, at least had some personality. Even the good singers are somewhat lacking in personality. All I can do is wait untill March 20th--Elliott Yamin's CD release. I think every guy this year completely pales compared to him, even Blake and Sligh, my favorites this year. Even Chris Daughtry brought something to the stage that these guys don't.
My brain hurts, been a long week.
Thats' all for now.
Funny Story (but not for the Eagle).
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16875766?GT1=8921
Made me think of the Simpsons ep where the life cycle is shown in class (filmstrip projector!), and it shows an eagle grabbing a sheep by its back and then flying away (the last one is a gorilla reaching for bananas and a great white comes out of the water and eats it!).
Woot.com is having a Woot-Off, an about an once-a-month occurence where items are sold at rapid pace. They are basically clearing out their stuff, so there are usually limited amounts (even more than normal).
Check it out, and look for the "Bag of Crap"
I think wikipedia has a good description of woot and its culture. It would be better than my description.
As of yesterday, my youngest is now crawling.
As this is my second child, the same awe and excitement is not present as it was for our son. Back then it was "wow, he is crawling, how great, how cute!" With Maddie, it is "Crap, get out the gates, move everything off any low table, and don't turn your back for a second" (It is still exciting and cute, but now I know both sides of the coin).
In other news:
Some cool things I like (just random things)---
Woot.com, a cool deal of the day site. I'm not sure if the first one of their type, but one of the best-looking, best-run, and most fun of the Deal of the Day sites out there. A very active comment forum and fun weekly contests. Cool items too. I think they may have a woot-off soon, so check it out!
Party Cake Ice Cream--My wife let my son pick out a ice cream that he could have for special occasions (we eat Edy's slow-churned diet ice cream-really good, but he can have the good stuff as he is not worried about his figure). It is vanilla ice cream with cake and buttercream frosting throughout. It is the devil. It has small amounts of crack in it to heighten the addiction. We cannot give him a small scoop without taking a spoonful for ourselves.
The Junkies--These morning radio guys are based out of DC, and as of Feb. 1, will no longer be heard in Baltimore. While they are juvenile and all that that goes along with morning radio, they are cool to listen to and remind me of my college days watching Sportscenter all morning, playing Sega Genesis Hockey and then Madden football on PlayStation. They have their own lingo which is tough to decipher at first, but then you catch yourself using it with non-listeners and getting weird looks. junkiesradio.com for all their radio DJness and stuff. I will have to make due with their online stream once I get to work now, missing out on a good hour of the show.
Looking forward to AI tonight, I still like the final rounds though versus the freakshow of the opening shows.
Once you have been tagged, you have to write a blog with 5 facts about yourself. Then choose 5 people you want to tag and list their names. Then leave a comment on their blog letting them know they’ve been tagged.
1.) I like Antiques Roadshow--there I said it. I think it is because I am a "stuff" keeper and don't throw things away (just ask my wife, who is the opposite).
2.) I like too many things. What I mean is that if I had the time and money, I would have a ton of sports cars (old and new), go skiing all the time, have an even bigger comic book collection, would have the most kick-ass home theater around (including huge CD and DVD collection to go with it), but I don't have the money or time, so I get by on the internets and w/ magazines (when I have the time to surf and read)
3.) I initially fought the call of Grey's Anatomy, but now it has supplanted ER in my hospital TV viewing (Thank God for Tivo, so I can watch Scrubs and Grey's)
4.) I still don't have any type of MP3 or other digital music player. I just don't need one right now, as I drive to work in my car and listen to the radio or CD and at work I don't listen to pretty much anything. I will come around some day, but just not yet.
5.) I am waiting for Elliott Yamin's CD to come out (whenever it may be). I am an AI fan, but his singing was the only one that would make me want to sit back and listen to a CD of it--his voice isn't too poppy or one-note rock-y type (see Daughtry). Other AI contestant ranks (somewhat in order)---Kelly Clarkson, Chrsitina Christian, Scott Savol, Clay Aiken (only on the show, too weird now), can't remember the names of others, but there were a few others.
Dang you Sparrow for tagging me, I don't know 5 others in the blog-lands of the internets, all the tubes and such.
I watch too much TV.
There I said it.
TIVO is my partner in this crime. (Amanda----you want DVR, you need DVR)
For example---last night, Golden Globes starts at 8, Antiques Roadshow (yes I am a loser) also at 8.
We lay down at about 8:15 after the kids are down and dishes put away, and I convince my wife that we need to watch a little AR so we can build up a "commercial" cushion on the GG's. We can zip through the first hour of the "globes" and skip commericals and boring parts of the show (not that there were too many---one of the reasons it is better than Oscar night).
I still have to watch Apprentice from Sunday night, and we haven't watched last week's ER (so sad to see the shell that this show has become). I am also starting to watch SNL again (Tivo'ed of course), which brings me back to the days of taping it every week and watching a bit before church on Sunday and then finishing before football (dana carvey, mike myers, phil hartman, chris rock, rob schneider, adam sandler days).
Tonight---Two Words......American, freakin', Idol Now my Tuesday nights have meaning again (after Friday Night Lights' move to Wednesday)
Back to work, that is all for now.
Izzy, I don't know how happy I would be w/ my wife and daughters able to read my thoughts. The... read more
